Transfer Benches

In some cases where mobility is extremely limited, and stepping into the shower is not an option, using a Transfer Bench is an excellent form of bath safety. Very similar to a Shower Chair, the Transfer Bench is placed inside the bath tub. But instead of fitting in the bathtub, the Transfer Bench extends over the bathtub edge, and onto the bathroom floor. This is excellent for someone using a wheelchair. The user can lift (or be lifted) from the wheelchair to the end of the bench and then slide into the bathtub, bypassing the dangerous act of climbing over the edge to get in the bathtub. This makes the Transfer Bench a very important item for a handicapped bathroom.

The transfer bench eliminates that first step into the bathtub which can be very dangerous for someone who just had hip or knee surgery, or has very poor or abnormal gait. The main reason for elderly or disabled people falling in the bathroom is because of a wet and slippery floor. With the Transfer Bench you do not have to ambulate to get in the shower.

Types of Transfer Benches

There are a few different types of transfer benches to choose from. We offer top of the line products from manufactures like Nova Ortho Med, Drive Medical, Invacare, and Eagle Health Supplies. All transfer benches can be switched from left or right hand transfers, non-skid and suction cup grips, and removable back.

• Economy Transfer Bench – Standard economy style made of coated aluminum and blow-molded plastic seating. The user simply slides from one end to the other on their own. Comes standard with back support and 300lb weight capacity. Suction cup end goes in the tub; the other end goes to the bathroom floor.
• Padded Transfer Bench – Same as the Economy Transfer Bench but with a padded seat for extra support for those with sensitive skin, lower back, or buttock muscle problems.
• Padded Transfer Bench with Commode – A padded transfer bench with the convenience of a commode with removable container. Also available without padding.
• Deluxe Transfer Bench – Comes complete with extra conveniences like soap holder, shower head insert, and contoured seat.
• Heavy Duty Transfer Bench – Transfer Bench with a maximum weight capacity between 400-500 lbs.

• Shower Board – similar to a Transfer Bench, the Shower Board rests on top of the bath tub creating a flat surface at the top of the tub so the user can transfer to the end of the tub and slide in over the flat surface.

• Sliding Transfer Bench – A Transfer Bench where the seat is attached to rails that slide from one side to another. The user may push themselves or be assisted by another.
